The Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother (S.H.M.) congregation has announced the commencement of the cause for the beatification of Sister Clare Crockett, a young nun who died in 2016 during an earthquake in Ecuador.
Newsdesk (05/11/2024 12:29, Gaudium Press) On Sunday January 12th, 2025, the opening of the cause for the beatification of Sister Clare Crockett will take place at the Cathedral of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid, Spain) at 5:30 pm.
Sister Clare Crockett, a member of The Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother (S.H.M.) died in the 2016 earthquake in Playa Prieta (Ecuador).
In a statement released on Monday, November 4th, the Congregation of the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother announced that ‘over the past eight years, many people have incessantly asked for the necessary steps to be taken to study the sainthood of Sister Clare Crockett’. After intense reflection and prayer on how to proceed, the Handmaids of the Home of the Mother recognized that these requests represent ‘a clear indication that the Lord was asking us to request the opening of Sister Clare Crockett’s process at the diocesan level’.
After receiving the transfer of jurisdiction and carrying out the research into her reputation for holiness and all the necessary consultations, Bishop Antonio Prieto Lucena, bishop of the Diocese of Alcalá de Henares, decided to accept the request. He himself will preside over the opening ceremony for the cause of beatification of Sr. Clare Crockett.
Sr. Kristen Gardner, also a member of the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother, has been appointed as postulator for the cause. She is the author of a biography about Clare Crockett, entitled Sister Clare Crockett: Alone with Christ Alone.
Speaking to ACI Prensa, Sr. Kristen explained that ‘the cause was started in Alcalá de Henares because it is our Seat (of the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother ) and it is easier to conduct the cause from here. The transfer of jurisdiction was requested from the bishop of Portoviejo (Ecuador) and he willingly granted it and Rome approved it’.
Sr. Clare Crockett
In her youth, Sr. Clare aspired to become a famous actress in Hollywood, but renounced all her dreams one Good Friday after an encounter with Christ Crucified. Her contagious joy led many souls, especially young people, to discover that true happiness can only be found in God. Her consistency of life and her total dedication to the various apostolates she carried out in Spain, the United States and Ecuador conveyed the message that only God can satisfy the heart of man when he gives himself totally to Him, without denying Him anything. After her death, it emerged that Sister Clare’s mission of evangelization was far from over. Indeed, thousands of messages and e-mails from fifty countries received by the Sisters bear witness to this.
