The tradition of carrying a small screen with the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was started after the apparitions to Saint Margaret Mary of Alacoque.

Newsroom (11/04/2022 08:20, Gaudium Press) Earlier this week we reported the excellent news that 50,000 miraculous medals were sent to Ukraine by the ‘Fédération Pro Europa Christiana’ after they concluded that “the drama of war is fought above all in the spiritual field.”

Now, the Spanish Shrine of Getafe, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ has also decided to promote a similar action by sending not miraculous medals, but the famous ‘detentes’ to Ukraine, which suffers so much from this war against Russia.

More than 50 volunteers work in the making of the ‘detainees

In total, 100 thousand ‘detainees’ will be sent to Ukraine, having a specific destination the Ukrainian soldiers. Already 10 thousand ‘detainees’ have been made and sent, but the goal is to reach 100 thousand.

According to the Diocese of Getafe, more than 50 volunteers are collaborating in the making of these ‘detainees’, which will be accompanied by a prayer to Our Lady in the native language.

History of the ‘detente’

With the apparitions of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary of Alacoque, the tradition of carrying a small canvas with the image of the Heart of Jesus, asking for his protection, began.

Especially, the wives of the military men began to sew this image on the clothes of their spouses. Soon the reports of miraculous protection began, so much so that in Spain the term ‘detente ball (bullet prisoner) was coined for this object. (EPC)
