A novena is being held throughout these days, which will be followed by a triduum in preparation for the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.
Newsroom (September 27, 2021, 8:25 PM, Gaudium Press) The Church of San Francesco a Ripa Grande, Italy, has announced the program for the feast of St. Francis, celebrated on October 4. The Saint prayed in this temple during one of his visits to Pope Innocent III. Even the stone on which he rested his head is visited by numerous pilgrims.
The Novena in preparation for the feast began on September 25 and will last until October 2. During this period, always at 5:45 pm, the Holy Rosary will be recited and meditated upon using the writings of St. Francis. Then, at 6:30 pm, a Mass will be celebrated by a Franciscan priest.
Triduum dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi
On September 30, the triduum dedicated to the Saint will begin. On Saturday, October 2, at 7:30 pm, some passages from the Canticle of the Creatures and Pope Francis will be read. On Sunday, October 3, Transitus of St. Francis, the usual recitation of the Holy Rosary will be followed by Solemn First Vespers at 6:00 pm and Holy Mass.
Monday, October 4, the Solemnity of St. Francis, will be a day full of celebrations. At 11 am, Holy Mass will be celebrated. At 5 pm, Vespers will be recited. At 6 pm, Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, Vicar General of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome, will preside a solemn Eucharistic Celebration. At 7:15 pm, there will be a solemn procession. Finally, at 8:30 pm there will be a social with a musical concert and the burning of fireworks. (EPC)
