Newsroom (22/12/2021 7:29 PM, Gaudium Press) The Chinese diocese of Haimen has organized a spiritual retreat for its priests in preparation for Christmas.

Bishop Joseph Shen Bin of Haimen noted that it is essential for priests to detach themselves from all worldly influences to be closer to the true “Shepherd of the sheep.”

For four days, the priests were recollected in prayer, meditating and reflecting on the priestly vocation. The participants focused on their relationship with God, the bishop, the community and their brothers in the priesthood.

At the end of the retreat, the participants felt spiritually “recharged” and ready to resume their activities, strengthened by these days of recollection.

The diocese of Haimen is located in Jiangsu province, in eastern mainland China. It has been established for more than 95 years. Its first bishop, Bishop Simon Zhu Kaimin, was one of the first Chinese bishops ordained by Pope Pius XI in 1926.

Currently, the diocese is one of the most active in the country, especially in the areas of pastoral care and evangelization. (FM)
