Recitation of the Rosary and Holy Mass

The procession took place after the recitation of the Holy Rosary, followed by the celebration of Holy Mass in San Salvador, presided by Bishop Pizzaballa and Bishop William Shomali, Vicar General for Jerusalem and Palestine.

Carrying with him the icon of Our Lady, the Patriarch led the procession that was attended by local faithful and pilgrims for the first time in two years. Bishop Pizzaballa was followed by an image of the Mother of God carried by devotees.

Protection of the Mother of Christ over the inhabitants of Jerusalem

Starting from San Salvador, the procession made its way to the courtyard of the College of the Brothers before stopping briefly at the Latin Patriarchate, inside the co-cathedral. The procession then walked through the streets of the Christian neighborhood of Jerusalem, before returning to San Salvador.

During the final blessing, the protection of the Mother of Christ was invoked over all the inhabitants of the city. Finally, a group of scouts positioned around the image of Our Lady marched through the Old City of Jerusalem. (EPC)
