The grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes will finally be reopened for pilgrims to visit on the next Feast of the Apparitions on February 11 after two years of pandemic closures

Newsroom (11/02/2022 12:00, Gaudium PressBefore the pandemic, the number of pilgrims in Lourdes was approximately 3.5 million a year.   Containing a spring of water that has known miraculous healing properties, on March 17th, 2020 various levels of closures began in response to the covid pandemic.

After being closed for two years because of health restrictions, the grotto of Lourdes will finally be able to receive pilgrims starting next February 11 as the Marian Sanctuary of Lourdes has announced that the Grotto of Our Lady will reopen to pilgrims.

People will be able to proceed in the same way they did before the pandemic: pray before the Virgin, pass by the rock, touch it, approach the fountain, the shrine indicated.

The date of the reopening corresponds to the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and also the 30th World Day of the Sick.

On February 11, 1858, the Blessed Virgin appeared for the first time to Saint Bernardette Soubirous, on the rock of Massabielle.

The young girl, who was looking for wood to heat her home, saw herself before a beautiful Lady dressed in white.

Up until July of the same year, there were 18 times that Our Lady appeared to the young girl and revealed herself to be “the Immaculate Conception. (FM)
