On August 4, the Catholic Church celebrated the memory of St. John Mary Vianney, also known as the Saint Curé of Ars.

Newsroom (August 5, 2021 11:00 AM Gaudium Press) Born in Dardilly in 1786, Saint John Mary Vianney was always a very pious Catholic. After being ordained a priest, he accepted to be the parish priest of the small village of Ars.

Through the praying of the rosary, the celebration of Holy Masses, his life witness and his desire to save souls, he became known as the Holy Curé of Ars.

For 40 years, he spent days in the confessional attending to penitents repentant of their sins. Sometimes he spent 18 hours ministering the sacrament of confession, feeding himself only on bread and potatoes.

St. John Mary Vianney lived to be 73 years old, and was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and proclaimed the patron saint of priests. The day of his feast, August 4, became Priests’ Day.

Prayer by the Holy Curé d’Ars

My God, I love You and my only desire is to love You until the last breath of my life. My God, infinitely lovable, I love You, and I would rather die loving You than live without loving You. Lord, I love You, and the only grace I ask of You is to love You eternally. My God, if my tongue cannot say I love You every instant, I want my heart to repeat You as many times as I breathe. Amen.
