The Archbishop of Quito, Alfredo Espinoza, made an important announcement during the 52nd Eucharistic Congress, which is presently taking place in Budapest, Hungary.
Newsroom (09/09/2021 22:30, Gaudium Press) During the Holy Mass celebrated this morning, September 9, at the International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest, Hungary, the Archbishop of Quito, Alfredo Espinoza, announced that the next Eucharistic Congress will be held in Quito, Ecuador.
The Quito 2024 Eucharistic Congress will take the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its central theme, recalling the 150th anniversary of the country’s Consecration to His Heart, “the same Heart that teaches us love and mercy“.
Protection of Our Lady of El Quinche
“In 2024 we will be waiting for the people to come to the ‘Carita de Dios‘, the ‘Face of God‘, as Quito is known. We are waiting for you in Ecuador, in the ‘Centre of the World‘, where the love of Christ in the Eucharist will impel us in the revolution of love; teaching us how to go and share our life with our brothers or sisters who are discarded by society; how to go from the love of forgiveness to the love of solidarity,” stated the Prelate.
Bishop Espinoza invoked the protection of Our Lady of El Quinche, Patroness of the Archdiocese of Quito, so that “She may accompany us on this journey to Quito. May we go out from here, from Budapest to the whole world, to revolutionize with love. Let us transform our world with love,” he exhorted.
History of the International Eucharistic Congresses
The first International Eucharistic Congress was celebrated in the city of Lille (France) in 1881. There is no regulated frequency for these meetings; however, in recent history, the congresses have been celebrated at intervals of three or four years.
Cebu City in the Philippines hosted the International Eucharistic Congress in the year 2016. The city of Budapest, Hungary, hosts the current congress, the 52nd of its kind. It was initially scheduled for 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic. (EPC)
