This survey, conducted from April 25 to May 25, 2021, was intended to “assist in the Church’s ongoing evangelization drive.”

Manila (June 7,2021 21:22, Gaudium Press) A survey conducted in the Philippines by Veritas Truth Survey (VTS) revealed that the majority of Filipino Catholics believe in the miracle of transubstantiation, renewed during Holy Mass, in which Our Lord Jesus Christ becomes truly present in the Eucharist.

According to the study, “the majority of respondents, 97%, affirm their belief that the Holy Eucharist is indeed the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and not just a symbol.” Another 2% believe that bread and wine are only symbols. And the remaining 1% said they were undecided.

The deep spirituality of the Filipinos

For Clifford Sorita, head of VTS, the survey showed the deep spirituality of Filipinos anchored in their Catholic Faith. “At a time when most Catholics in other parts of the world view bread and wine as mere symbols of the Body and Blood of Christ, it is noteworthy that we Filipinos believe in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist,” he pointed out.

The survey was conducted from April 25 to May 25, 2021, used a stratified sample of 1,200 respondents nationwide. The margin of error is +/- 3%, with data collected via the internet. The purpose of this work was to “assist in the Church’s ongoing evangelization drive.” (EPC)
