Newsroom (Septeember 30, 2020 13:13pm Gaudium Press) — Today Pope Francis concluded his series of audiences about ”healing the world”, on the occasion of the pandemic. He called for the regeneration of society and urgently invited “to generate good policies, to design systems of social organization that reward participation, care and generosity, rather than indifference, exploitation and self-interest.”
Dignity, solidarity and subsidiarity, the Holy Father recalled at the San Damaso Courtyard, are “indispensable ways of promoting human dignity and the common good”, anchored in the principles of the Church’s social doctrine, guided by faith, hope and charity.”
The Pontiff invited us to contemplate and appreciate the beauty of every human being and every creature, because “each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary” and “every creature has something to say to us about God the creator”. In this way, “we will be able to contribute to the new healing of relationships with our gifts and our capacities.”
The Pontiff invited us to walk towards a new normality, which is “that of the Kingdom of God, where ‘the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin diseases are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.’” (Mt 11:5).
Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pope Francis acknowledged that this “A small virus continues to cause deep wounds and to expose our physical, social and spiritual vulnerabilities.”
The Pope urged that we work “urgently to generate good policies, to design systems of social organization that reward participation, care and generosity, rather than indifference, exploitation and self-interest,” since a society of solidarity and justice is a healthier society.
