Bishop Renato Mayugba Called on the Priests to Look to Our Lady as the Perfect Model for Priestly Ministry.
Laoag – Filipinas (06/11/2022 1:30 PM, Gaudium Press) “The priest who does not invoke Mary as part of his pastoral ministry is doomed to failure,” assured Bishop Renato Mayugba, Bishop of Laoag, during a Holy Mass at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology (ICST) in Vigan City, Philippines.
Our Lady is the Perfect Model of Priestly Ministry
The prelate called on local priests to look to Our Lady as the perfect model for priestly ministry and further stated that they cannot be synod priests if they do not have Mary as a companion in their priestly life.
“The Blessed Mother exemplified what a synodal Church is. She was present in everyone – everywhere, in every diocese, in every parish, in every home,” he stressed in his sermon. The liturgy concluded the three-day Great Marian Celebration for the 200 years of the ICST.
Visit By Several Images of Our Lady
Throughout the event, several images of Our Lady visited the seminary, among which were the following Marian invocations: Our Lady of Piat de Cagayan; Our Lady of Guibang de Isabela; Our Lady of Mar Cautiva; Our Lady of Namacpacan de La Union; La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc de Ilocos Norte; and Our Lady of Covadonga de Benguet.
Other Marian images that participated in the celebrations were those of: Our Lady of Good Harvest of Nueva Vizcaya; Our Lady of Charity of Ilocos Sur; Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag in Pangasinan; Our Lady of La Salette; and an image of the Immaculate Conception. After the Holy Mass, the images were carried through the city in a procession attended by thousands of pilgrims and devotees. (EPC)
