This combination of two of France’s main postcards is already considered an exceptional historical event.

Newsroom(02/11/2023 11:40, Gaudium Press) This October, the Louvre museum in France began an exhibition of 120 works from the treasury of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. The pieces were saved by teams from the fire department, who managed to preserve them from the terrible fire that destroyed part of this historic Catholic temple.

Relics and pieces of goldsmithery are part of the Treasury of Notre-Dame de Paris
Among the works in the exhibition, which will remain open to the public until January 29, 2024, are priestly vestments, relics and reliquaries, manuscript books and other precious objects. These artifacts will tell the story of Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, from its origins in the Middle Ages to its resurrection in the 19th century and its flourishing with Viollet-le-Ducno under the Second Empire.
The Notre-Dame treasury is famous for its relics, in particular the crown of thorns of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and other pious items from the old treasury of the Sainte-Chapelle church. Masterpieces of French goldsmithery also feature prominently in this exhibition.

Some of Notre-Dame’s treasures are not in the exhibition
Some of the main pieces of the Notre-Dame treasure are not present in the exhibition, including the Crown of Thorns, the tunic of St. Louis and the wood of the Cross. The reason for their absence is that these pieces are currently kept in the Church of Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois, where they will remain until the restoration work on the French cathedral is finished.
This exhibition is organized by the Louvre Museum in collaboration with the Île-de-France Regional Department of Cultural Affairs, which is responsible for the conservation operations of the objects in the treasuries of Notre-Dame de Paris and the National Library of France. The reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral is scheduled for December 2024. (EPC)
