This morning, December 31, the Holy See announced that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died in his apartment in the Vatican at the age of 95.
Newsroom (31/12/2022 7:09 AM, Gaudium Press) — The Holy See has confirmed that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday morning, December 31, 2022.
The director of the Vatican Press Office announced that the death occurred around 9:34 AM local time at the Mater Ecclesia residence.
“It is with sorrow that I inform you that Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 AM at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. More information will follow as soon as possible,” reads the statement made public this morning. (FM)
