The Sodalitium of Christian Life confirms its dissolution by order of Pope Francis, citing foundational issues linked to its founder, Luis Fernando Figari.
Newsroom (21/01/2025 09:27, Gaudium Press) The Sodalitium of Christian Life confirmed through a statement that Pope Francis has effectively dissolved their society of apostolic life. The declaration, issued by the “General Assembly of the Sodalitium” and dated January 20, 2025, clarifies that two members of the society—not Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda—”leaked information of an absolutely confidential nature,” emphasizing that “the Assembly recognizes only news from its official communications as its own.”
The statement also addresses “various inaccuracies” circulated by the media—without specifying which ones—while acknowledging that “the central information about the fact was true.” Some allege that the decree of dissolution refers to the immorality of the founder, Luis Fernando Figari, which would be the basis for a non-existence of the foundational charism. This decree also establishes that Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu, an official of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, would be the pontifical commissioner in charge of the dissolution process.
The SCV was founded in Lima in 1971 and is currently also present in Italy, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.
