The Dicastery for Bishops has resumed the annual course for the formation of new bishops in September. This comes after a two-year hiatus from the event

Newsroom (13/09/2022 1:03 AM, Gaudium Press) A formation course is being held for new bishops in the Vatican.

The formation for new bishops is organized by the Dicastery for Bishops annually. However, the event was cancelled for two consecutive years due to the health crisis.

The Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum houses the formation course that takes place in Rome.

The new bishops, coming from all over the world, participate in the study seminar in two groups.

The first group, which has been in formation since September 1, consists of 150 bishops. The second group will take part in the seminar from September 12 to 19 and is expected to bring together another 170 bishops.

In all, more than three hundred new episcopates will be formed in the month of September. The theme of this year’s seminar course is: “Announcing the Gospel in a time of change and after the pandemic: the service of the Bishop”.

The opening Mass for the first group’s seminar was celebrated by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See.

During the days of formation, topics such as the Synod, the sexual abuse crisis, the role of the Church in today’s society, among others, will be on the agenda. (FM)
