The Vatican’s report explained that recent exams revealed a polymicrobial infection affecting the Pope’s respiratory system, prompting changes to his medical treatment. These results show a complex clinical situation that requires continued hospitalization. The Pope’s doctors have determined that he must remain under medical supervision.
Pope Francis Continues to Rest and Receive Prayers
Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, reported that Pope Francis had a peaceful night and was able to eat breakfast on Monday as usual. Additionally, the Pope engaged in some light reading of newspapers and continues his prescribed therapy. The Vatican reassured the public that the Pope is receiving the best care and remains in stable condition.
General Audience of February 19th Canceled
Due to the Pope’s need for rest, the General Audience scheduled for Wednesday, February 19th, was canceled. Pope Francis is also under strict rest orders, which prevented him from leading the Angelus prayer on Sunday, February 16th.

In the afternoon update, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis continues to show no fever and remains stable under treatment. This morning, the Pope received the Eucharist and later engaged in some work activities and reading. The Pope is deeply moved by the messages of support and prayers he has been receiving. He is particularly grateful for the drawings and well-wishes from hospitalized individuals, and he offers prayers for all the sick while asking for continued prayers for his own recovery.
