Newsroom (08/01/2022 12:30 PM, Gaudium Press) The Vatican Department of Philately and Numismatics will issue a commemorative stamp issue to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), known as Vatican Bank, which was founded in 1942.
Description of the new stamp
The stamp, which will be in circulation from September 1, features the tower of Nicolò V, the historic seat of the Vatican Bank, as well as the faces of Pope Pius XII, who founded the IOR, and Pope Francis, who renewed the statutes. The two pontiffs are facing the right to indicate the attention and concern that the Successor of Peter has for the future of this institution.
Institute for Works of Religion
According to the website of the Vatican’s Department of Philately and Numismatics, the expression ‘works of religion’ has a double meaning “refers, on the one hand, to charitable, apostolic and pastoral activities” and “on the other hand, to subjects and organizations, dioceses, congregations, missions and all those realities that work for the good of the Church and society.” (EPC)
