Professor Venerando Marano, deputy president of the Vatican City State Tribunal, will become president on January 1, 2025.
Newsroom (30/12/2024 15:18, Gaudium Press) The Vatican City State Tribunal will have a new president as of January 1, Professor Venerando Marano, who until then served as the tribunal’s deputy president. Professor Marano succeeds Giuseppe Pignatone, who has held the position since 2019 and whose resignation was accepted by the Pope on December 11 due to the age limit.
Venerando Marano is a full professor of Canon Law and Ecclesiastical Law at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, where he also serves as director of the law department. He is a member of the steering committee of the Centro Studi sugli Enti Ecclesiastici della Cattolica and the author of several publications on ecclesiastical law.
He has also served as head of the Legal-Legislative Observatory established at the Italian Bishops’ Conference. Recently, he was deputy judge in the London Apartment trial, which led to a maximum verdict at first instance against several defendants, including Cardinal Angelo Becciu.
