Amidst an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, riveted by food shortages and economic collapse, a priest asks: “What would Our Lady say to the Venezuelan people today?”

Newsroom(02/08/2024 10:32, Gaudium Press) Fr. Santiago Morazzani Arráiz, EP, a doctor of Theology and member of the Heralds of the Gospel, sent a message to the Venezuelan people, who are also his people, on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Coromoto.

Although he has lived abroad since his early youth, Fr. Morazzani has always shown a special affection for his homeland. His words take on particular relevance in light of the current situation in Venezuela, presently riveted by an unprecedented humanitarian crisis marked by inflation, protests, government instability, food shortages, violence and economic collapse.

“What would Our Lady say to the Venezuelan people today?” the priest is asked.

“Our Lady would say to the Venezuelan people, first and foremost, one word, and that word is Trust. When should we have trust? When any situation might lead us to discouragement or despair,” he notes.

“Precisely in these moments, Our Lady extends her arms to us as she did to Coromoto, the native man. She smiles at us with the same maternal love, I would say with even more maternal love, because the situation of Venezuelans is sometimes more dramatic than that of Coromoto,” comments Fr. Santiago Morazzani.

“Her words resonate in the heart like a ringing bell. And she would say, ‘My children, trust. Everything has a solution, as long as you want to enter My Heart! (…) I extend my arms to you and say that everything has a solution. The solution is found in me, who am the Mother of each one of you. A very loving Mother, a Mother who forgives all crimes, all infidelities, all abandonments.”

When her children turn to Her, “Her smile becomes even more maternal and even more affectionate, the more tragic the situation of a Venezuelan man or woman may be.”

“We, Venezuelans, say to Her: Mother, we trust in You, You will never abandon us, we are in Your arms; My Mother, help us…”
