Procession to the Marian Basilica
According to the Press Office of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, the day began with a procession of approximately 6 kilometres from the site of the apparition to the Marian Basilica. The procession included the presence of the relic of Blessed José Gregorio Hernández.
Eucharistic Celebration
Bishop Jose de la Trinidad Valera Angulo, Bishop of Guanare, presided over the Holy Mass that was concelebrated by members of the diocesan clergy and assisted by civil and religious authorities, as well as indigenous people who paid homage to the Mother of God with typical cultural dances.
Patroness of Venezuela
Every 8 September, Venezuela celebrates the apparition of Our Lady to the tribal leader Coromoto, which was later printed on a small parchment after the attack by an indigenous man. The invocation was later proclaimed the Patroness of the country on 11 September, 1942, and was canonically crowned ten years later by Cardinal Manuel Arteaga Betancourt. (EPC)
