In 1934, Eugeniusz Kazimirowski painted an image of Jesus of Mercy, currently preserved in another Shrine in Lithuania.

Lithuania – Vilnius (24/04/2022 5:30 PM, Gaudium Press) Among the most cherished Catholic devotions is that of the Jesus of Divine Mercy. His image is well-known: it is a Christ with red and white rays streaming from his heart.

The great propagator of this devotion, St Faustina Kowalska, is called the “Apostle of Divine Mercy,”; and the centre of it, the Basilica of Divine Mercy, located in Krakow, Poland.

Meanwhile, 450 miles north in Krakow, in Lithuania’s capital Vilnius, there is another Divine Mercy shrine. There is an image of Jesus of Mercy painted by Eugeniusz Kazimirowski in 1934, representing Jesus according to the Polish nun’s visions. It was there where the painting of the Merciful Christ was exhibited for the first time.

According to the Archbishop of Vilnius, Most Rev. Gintaras Linas Grusas, before the apparitions of Jesus to Saint Faustina, the Mother of Mercy has always been the patroness of this place. Other invocations are Our Lady Gate of Dawn or Holy Door. The Mother of Mercy is one of the most revered figures in Eastern Europe. (EPC)
