Italian bishop writes Good Friday Way of the Cross for Rome

Rome – (Monday, 03/09/2015, Gaudium Press) – Bishop Emeritus Renato Corti, of Novare, a diocese in the Piedmont, was chosen by the Pope to write the meditations for the Way of the Cross that Pope Francis will do on Good Friday at the Roman Coliseum. Ten years ago he preached in the Vatican Lenten Spiritual Exercises for the Pope and the Roman Curia, just weeks before Pope John Paul II died.

The Way of the Cross will follow the traditional scheme of 14 stations. Each year a large number of faithful meets at the Coliseum, which will be illuminated from the inside, and a procession takes place with people carrying torches, following on an ancient tradition that was continued by Pope Paul VI 50 years ago.

Last year also an Italian Bishop, Msgr. Bregantini, wrote the meditations for Good Friday. (JSG)
