Pope Blesses Bells for the Unborn, “Yes for Life” Foundation

Pope Francis blessed two bells that symbolize the unborn. The Pontiff hopes that the sound of the bells will awaken consciences regarding the value of human life in all its stages.

Newsdesk (28/10/2021 2:30, Gaudium Press) Before the pontifical audience last Wednesday, October 27, Pope Francis blessed two new bells of the “Yes for Life” foundation.

The bells are meant to represent the voice of the unborn and to witness for the world the Gospel of Life.

Francis wished the bells to be a symbol of the commitment in defense of life and that the sound “awaken the consciences and the memory of children who are about to be born” and added “I entrust to your prayers every conceived child, whose life is sacred and inviolable.”

This is not the first time that the Holy Father has blessed a bell. The previous year he had already blessed a bell from the “Yes for Life” foundation that was destined for Poland.

Made in Poland, the bells are destined for the city of Lviv, Ukraine, and Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Archbishops Mieczysław Mokrzycki of Lviv and Luis Cabrera Herrera of Guayaquil asked that the bells be blessed by the Pontiff.

Both prelates explained that the bells will not stay in a fixed place in their respective countries, but will go on a pilgrimage through parishes and dioceses with the intention of raising people’s awareness about life.

The bells have various inscriptions referring to the importance of life from conception to natural death. Thus, on the bell intended for Ecuador one can read the following phrases:

      “The voice of the unborn”
“Respect, defend, love and serve life, all human life”, the invocation of the encyclical Evangelium Vitae.
      “Thou shalt not kill”
