The Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto determines that only the liturgical books promulgated by Saint Paul VI and Saint John Paul II are to be used.
Newsroom (12/08/2021 18:30, Gaudium Press) The Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto has released an Instruction with guidelines for the application in the archdiocesan territory of the Apostolic Letter in the form of motu proprio “Traditionis Custodes” regarding the use of the Roman liturgy before the 1970 reform.
In the document, dated August 4, 2021 and signed by local Archbishop Moacir Silva, it is determined that in the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto “only the only expression of the lex orandi of the Roman Rite, that is the liturgical books promulgated by St. Paul VI and St. John Paul II” will be used.
Decision based on the words of Pope Francis
The prelate’s decision is based on the Pope’s words in the Letter to Bishops accompanying the Motu Proprio, in which the Pontiff makes “the firm decision to revoke all norms, instructions, concessions and customs preceding the present Motu Proprio.
The Archbishop further stated that he also relied on article 2 of the said Motu Proprio, which assures the diocesan bishop “to regulate liturgical celebrations in his diocese,” and on article 1 of the Motu Proprio, which states that the liturgical books promulgated by Popes Paul VI and John Paul II “are the sole expression of the lex orandi of the Roman Rite.”
Catholics express themselves on social networks
On social networks, some Catholics have said that “the way is to go to Mass at the FSSPX [Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X]”. This shows that the Motu Proprio may indirectly encourage an influx of people to attend Masses celebrated by Lefebvrist priests. (EPC)
