According to tradition, the Holy Shroud is the sacred mantle wrapping the body of Our Lord Jesus Christ after his death on the Cross.
Newsroom (05/04/2022 1:35 PM, Gaudium Press) The Cathedral of Buenos Aires, Argentina, opened the exhibition “Who is the Man of the Shroud? A Search for Traces”. The travelling exhibit, promoted by the Argentine Holy Shroud Foundation with the sponsorship of the Sovereign Order of Malta, will remain open to the public until May 2.
Replica of the Holy Shroud
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Mario Poli and Georg Khevenhueller, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta. The event is a joint venture between the Argentine Holy Shroud Foundation and the Sovereign Order of Malta.
Visitors will be able to closely appreciate a replica of the Holy Shroud of Turin in its original dimensions: 4.4 meters long and 1.13 meters wide. In addition, twenty-five illustrative panels offer historical and scientific information about the sacred cloth. Also on display are objects related to the Passion: the nails, the tip of a spear, and the crown of thorns. A 1.80 meter (6 feet) bronze figure represents the man wrapped in the shroud.
First time in Argentina
This exhibit, touring Germany and other German-speaking countries since 2013, has arrived in Argentina for the first time. “It is a delight to be able to see the show in Buenos Aires. The exhibition seeks to bring you closer to one of the most fascinating objects in the world: the Holy Shroud of Turin,” notes Georg Khevenhueller.
According to tradition, the Holy Shroud is the sacred robe wrapping the body of Our Lord Jesus Christ after his death on the Cross. The details printed on the cloth reveal the scourging, the crown of thorns, the crucifixion and the spear blow suffered by Jesus on the Cross. It is considered one of the first holy relics venerated by Christ’s disciples. (EPC)
