Catholic Church will have New Saints and Blesseds

The Holy Father authorized the publication of decrees of canonization and beatification of three priests and three nuns.

Newsroom – Vatican City (December 17, 2021, 9:35 AM, Gaudium Press) On Monday morning, December 13, Pope Francis received in his audience the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.

During the meeting, the Pontiff authorized the publication of some decrees of canonization and beatification. In total, the miracles of two new Saints and the heroic virtues of four new Blesseds were recognized. The decrees approved by the Holy Father refer to three priests and three nuns.

Two New Saints

Among the Saints whose miracles were recognized are the French Blessed Maria Rivier, Foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary (1768-1838); and the Italian Venerable Servant of God Maria Carola Cecchin, professed Sister of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Benedict Cottolengo (1877-1925).

Four New Blesseds

Among the new Blesseds whose heroic virtues were recognized are the Spanish Servant of God Andrea Garrido Perales, professed priest of the Order of the Blessed Virgin of Mercy (1663-1728); and the Italian Servant of God Carlo Maria de Abbiategrasso (Gaetano Antonio Vigevano), professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin (1825-1859).

The Italian Servant of God Bernardo Sartori, professed priest of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus (1897-1983); and the Polish Servant of God Maria Margherita of the Dying Heart of Jesus in the Garden of Olives (Ludovica Banaś), professed religious of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (1896-1966), have also had their heroic virtues recognized.
