A true Mystic, a miracle worker and a fiery soul of prayer and sacrifice, the life of St. Rose of Lima could be the subject of many and many scripts.
Newsdesk (23/08/2020 16:32, Gaudium Press) Today, as the Church commemorates Saint Rose of Lima, a film bearing her name will be released digitally. The work is a joint production of the Peruvian Film company Azul Corporación and EWTN. The script is written and directed by Rubén Enzian. He had access to the 17th-century canonization archives of the Saint.
“Isabel Flores de Oliva, a deeply religious young woman, lived in the 17th century in the viceroyalty of Peru. Completely convinced of her love for God and for her neighbour, she gave her life to those most in need. She fought against injustice and the accusations of the Holy Office, seeking to make her pass as a mad visionary,” says the synthesis of the film.
“After her death, her closest friends such as Gonzalo de la Maza and María de Uzátegui and Dr. Juan del Castillo began the difficult path of the canonization process. Decades later, St Rose would become the first saint of the Americas”, it adds.
Her times were a period when holiness flourished in Peru. While St. Toribio of Mogrovejo was the actual Archbishop of Lima, Rose used to leave her cloister to visit the Virgin of the Rosary and tend to the sick and slaves. She was assisted in this work by St Martin of Porres.
A true Mystic, a miracle worker and a fiery soul of prayer and sacrifice, the life of St. Rose of Lima could be the subject of many and many scripts. Azul Corporation and EWTN share light on one of them.
