Philippines – Manila (30/06/2023 20:47, Gaudium Press) Next Thursday, June 29, the Manila Cathedral will inaugurate a new exhibition in the Chapel of the Blessed Souls. Entitled “The Popes in the Philippines,” the exhibit will recall the pastoral visits the Popes made to the Philippines.

Making the memory of the Popes with the Filipinos alive

The exhibit will recall the apostolic journeys made by Pontiffs St. Paul VI, St. John Paul II, and Francis. “We want to make the memory of our Popes with the Filipinos close and alive,” says a post published on the Manila Cathedral’s social media.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Apostolic Nuncio

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown, and Cardinal Jose Advincula, Archbishop of Manila. On the occasion, Archbishop Brown will preside a Holy Mass in commemoration of the Pope’s day, celebrated during the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul.

Three Popes have visited the Philippines

The first Pope to visit the Southeast Asian nation was St. Paul VI in 1970. St. John Paul II made two visits to the country, the first in the year 1981 and the second in 1995. The third Pontiff to visit the Philippines was Pope Francis in the year 2015. (EPC)
