The festivities in honor of Saint Joan of Arc are an annual event that began after the historic battle of Orléans, in which the young warrior saved the city that was under siege by the English. The victory took place on May 8, 1429. The following year, the inhabitants of the city celebrated the victory of the French for the first time.

Therefore, the festivities in memory of the Virgin of Domrémy are one of the oldest celebrations in France. Among the activities proposed during these days of celebration are conferences, musical concerts, theaters and parades.

One of the most anticipated moments is the Saint Joan of Arc parade through the streets of the town. Every year, a young woman is elected to represent Saint Joan of Arc during the festivities. She rides through the streets of Orléans on horseback, dressed in armor, holding a banner, and flanked by two pageboys.

The young woman who embodies Saint Joan of Arc in 2023 is 16-year-old Clairvie Quesne. Clairvie, who has participated in the festivities since she was a child, explained that she has always dreamed of one day wearing armor and representing the Warrior Saint. (FM)
