Msgr. Ravelli is the successor of Bishop-elected Guido Marini, recently appointed by Francis as the new bishop of the Diocese of Tortona.

Newsroom (11/10/2021 11:22 AM, Gaudium Press) On Monday, Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Diego Giovanni Ravelli as the new master of ceremonies at the Vatican, replacing Msgr. Guido Marini, who held the post for 14 years.
Ravelli was also named head of the pope’s Sistine Chapel Choir.

Msgr. Guido Marini was promoted to bishop of Tortona, a diocese in northern Italy near Genoa. Marini, 56, will be ordained bishop by Pope Francis in St Peter’s Basilica on October 17.

Papal masters of ceremonies are responsible for organizing and overseeing all of the pope’s liturgical celebrations. They usually stand by the pope during liturgies both in Rome and abroad.

Ravelli was ordained priest by the Clerical Public Association Priests of Jesus Crucified in 1991 and incardinated in the Diocese of Velletri-Segni. In 2000 he obtained a Diploma in Pedagogical Methodology at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, and in 2010 he obtained a Doctorate in Sacred Liturgy at the Liturgical Institute of the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome.

Ravelli also served as Assistant of Ceremonies before his appointment in 2006 as Papal Ceremoniary.

Also on Oct. 11, Pope Francis named Fr. Cristiano Antonietti as a master of ceremonies to fill the place left by Ravelli.
