Ecclesia Cantic: a great meeting of young people to promote liturgy, liturgical singing, and evangelization in France

Newsroom (April 7, 2022, 11:10 AM, Gaudium Press) Another meeting of the Ecclesia Cantic movement took place in Lille, France, on the weekend of March 26 and 27.

Ecclesia Cantic is an initiative of the Church of France aimed at promoting liturgical music and the beauty of liturgy among young people aged 18 to 35.

The movement is run by volunteers who are experts in liturgy and singing techniques. The association is spread throughout the parishes and dioceses of France and holds a large assembly for its members every 18 months.

Since the founding of the Ecclesia Cantic movement, 5 editions have taken place across France. The first was in the city of Grenoble in 2016, then Paris hosted the movement in 2018, Angers in 2019, and Lyon in 2021.

The most recent edition took place in the city of Lille on March 26 and 27, and was attended by about a thousand people. During the weekend, the participants attended several conferences and were able to participate in spirituality workshops.

It is also part of the movement’s initiative to encourage the spirit of evangelization among young people. For this reason, the participants are sent in small choirs throughout the city center to “bring the joy of the Gospel to the inhabitants”.

To conclude the meeting of this latest edition, the participants (about a thousand people) offered a concert to the public held in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de la Treille.

Ecclesia Cantic also promotes training on weekends at the “Ecclesia Cantic Academy”, where songwriting competitions, CD recordings, promotion of liturgical singing, and many other initiatives related to liturgical music are held. (FM)
