French Diocese Opens New Marian Shrine

The new diocesan Shrine dedicated to our Lady of Victories reinforces its position as a crossroads of evangelization.

France – Brittany (13/10/2021 17:03, Gaudium Press) Our Lady of Victories is the patroness of the French city of Lorient. Last Sunday, Bishop Centène of Vannes presided over the Eucharistic celebration and inaugurated Brittany’s third Marian Shrine.

A haven where Christians can renew their faith

The new diocesan Shrine reinforces its position as a crossroads of evangelization. It is a place aiming at assisting the spiritual renewal of the faithful. “We live in a fragmented world, our civilization has become an archipelago. The Church must adapt to this new reality, knowing how to offer appropriate locations, spiritual havens where Christians can renew their Faith”, Bishop Centène noted.

The Shrine is hosting several initiatives. Among them, a mailbox where the faithful can place their prayer intentions to be included during Holy Mass; priests available to hear the faithful’s confessions from Tuesday to Sunday; recitation of the Holy Rosary from Monday to Friday; a Marian exhortation every first Saturday of the month with a Marian theme.

Brittany’s Third Marian Shrine in Brittany

The other two shrines in Brittany Region are Sainte-Anne d’Auray, the most important pilgrimage site after Lourdes and Lisieux, and Notre-Dame-du-Roncier in Josselin, located in northern Morbihan. Sainte-Anne d’Auray is dedicated to the mother of Our Lady. Unlike the two older shrines, the newly inaugurated Shrine of Our Lady of Victories was erected by a decree of the local Bishop. The other two needed approval by the French Conference of Bishops and the international shrines recognized by Rome. (EPC)
