Cardinal Ambongo Stresses Unity and Faith at SECAM Press Conference Ahead of Rome Synod

Cardinal Ambongo Highlights Church Unity in Africa During Post-Synod Press Conference, declaring that discussions on Fiducia Supplicans are concluded and the matter is considered resolved.

Editorial (May 2, 2024, 10:51, Gaudium Press) – Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, the Archbishop of Kinshasa and president of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), addressed the media on April 25, following a four-day meeting of African delegates preparing for the upcoming session of the Synod of Bishops in Rome.

Cardinal Ambongo echoed the sentiments of Cardinal Sarah from Cameroon, urging African bishops to be “defenders of the unity of faith” and to engage in “pastoral charity work that recalls the truth.” “I have closely followed Cardinal Sarah’s remarks in Cameroon, and I believe his message is truthful,” stated Cardinal Ambongo, who is also a member of the Council of Cardinals, known as C9.

The Church in Africa stands united in communion

Furthermore, the Cardinal emphasized the solidarity of God’s people in Africa against efforts to normalize illegitimate unions, specifically through blessings of same-sex couples. “The Church in Africa stands united in communion; there is no division. I think people around the world agree and share the same views as the Church in Africa,” he affirmed, declaring that discussions on Fiducia Supplicans are concluded and the matter is considered resolved.
