History of the Eucharistic Congresses is the Theme of a Book Published by the Vatican Publishing House.

The book contains newspaper articles, posters and many photographs found in various archives in Europe and in the pontifical institution.

Italy – Rome (06/04/2022 14:56, Gaudium Press) The Vatican Publishing House has just published a work that promises to rescue the history of the Eucharistic Congresses held around the world. Entitled “Eucharist, Church and World – International Eucharistic Congresses”, the 768-page book gathers numerous photographs and documents that narrate the origin of this event.

All International Eucharistic Congresses collected in one book for the first time

The author of the book, Father Vittore Boccardi, secretary of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses, assures that “for the first time all the International Eucharistic Congresses are gathered in one book.” “For the more distant years there are simple illustrations of the places,” adds the priest, focusing on the long work of research that underlies the publication.

The work contains newspaper articles, posters and many photographs found in various archives in Europe and the pontifical institution. “These events are quickly inserted into their time and the theological situation of the time and are always accompanied by the texts of the pronouncements of the Popes on the occasion of the various engagements,” he assures.

The Eucharist is the motor of change in the world

According to the priest, the path is of an historical nature and the basic premise “is the relationship between the Eucharist, considered to be the heart of the Church, and the world. And this path can be perceived by following the path that began in 1881 in Lille, France, to reach the present day with Pope Francis in Budapest, Hungary, in September 2021, at the closing of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.

The Eucharistic Congresses travel the world reaffirming more and more that “the Eucharist is the engine of change in the world. This is because it helps the faithful to gradually come closer to and resemble Our Lord Jesus Christ who came to give his life as servant of the world, taking the last place.” (EPC)
