Holy Shroud of Salerno to be Exhibited During Holy Week

This copy of the Holy Shroud was obtained from the original in the year 1665 and is kept in the Diocesan Museum of the Italian city of Salerno.

Italy – Salerno (April 8, 2022 12:30 PM, Gaudium Press) From April 7 to 17, 2022, the Risen Jesus Parish of Arbostella Park in Salerno, Italy, will hold an exhibition of a copy of the Holy Shroud, obtained from the original in the year 1665.

Second time in history that the Shroud of Salerno will be exposed to the public

The copy of the Holy Shroud of Turin is preserved to this day in the Diocesan Museum of Salerno, since the closure of the Convent of San Michele in the historic center. The last and, until then, the only time the Holy Shroud of Salerno had been displayed to the public was in May 2015. And now in 2022.

The Shroud of Salerno cannot be considered a relic

“Bringing a copy, made in the original, of the Shroud of Turin in our parish means, for us, to restore the knowledge of the history of Salerno through a symbol of high spiritual value for the Christian faithful…to hold moments of reflection and accompaniment in prayer to underline with greater clarity the preparation for Easter,” says a note posted on the website of the Risen Jesus Parish. The Parish warns that the Shroud of Salerno cannot be considered a relic, despite the fact that it has been placed in direct contact with the Shroud of Turin.

Experiences of suffering lived with Faith: ideas from the Gospels

The exhibition will be opened after the celebration of a Holy Mass presided over by the Archbishop of Salerno, Monsignor Andrea Bellandi. This will be followed by the historical-theological-religious meeting “Experiences of suffering lived with Faith: Ideas from the Gospels”, moderated by Aniello Palombo, with the participation of Bishop Luigi Aversa, Director of the Diocesan Museum ‘San Matteo’, Bishop Gaetano Di Palma, who teaches Introduction to Sacred Scripture and Exegesis of the New Testament at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Section of the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy, and the “Spouses in Christ”, Mimmo and Tommasina Cosimato, who will tell about their experience of Faith.
