The Vatican’s Congregation approved the parish request for the canonical coronation of the image for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in October 2020.
The Philippines – Manila (June 19, 2021 08:04 AM, Gaudium Press) – The venerated Marian image of Mater Dolorosa de Capas received a canonical coronation at the hands of the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Charles Brown, during a Mass at the Cathedral of San Sebastian in Tarlac City, Philippines.
Sadness turns to joy
The coronation ceremony was attended by seven other bishops, led by Bishop Enrique Macaraeg of Tarlac and other priests, nuns, religious and faithful. The pontifical coronation was held in the Cathedral. The image is kept in the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church in the village of Dolores, in the city of Capas.
In his homily, the Nuncio invited everyone to turn to Our Lady and pray “for our difficulties, for the pains, for the sadness of our human life. Let us remember that in our Catholic Faith, sadness is transformed into joy. That joy will have the last word.”
Jesus is the joy of our hearts
The prelate reinforced his request to the faithful by asking Our Lady to introduce them to Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Heavenly Father.
In this way, “those sorrows will be transformed into joy because Jesus is the joy of our hearts and Mary is the mother who brings that joy to the world.”
The parish request for the canonical coronation of the Marian image of Mater Dolorosa de Capas was approved by the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on October 1, 2020.
