In France, the possibility of abortion is extended from the 12th to the 14th week of pregnancy

The bill now goes to the Senate; debates are expected to be stiff.

Newsroom (October 11, 2020 5:20 pm Gaudium Press)   In France, the National Assembly has raised the time period in which abortions can be performed, extending it from 12 to 14 weeks. The bill now goes to the Senate, where debates are expected to be stiff.

The results of the vote were 86 in favor,  59 against, and 7 abstentions.

In France, legislation considers abortion a ‘right’

The clause regarding the conscience of doctors has also been rewritten, adopting a wide format and solely referring to regulatory provisions.

This includes abolishing the 48 hours delay period, granted to women who ask for a psychosocial consultation before having an abortion.

Midwives are permitted to perform surgical abortions up to the 10th week of gestation.
