Given the increasing discrimination against Catholic minorities, Church leaders in India denounce persecution and violence.

Newsroom (26/01/2022 9:10 AM, Gaudium Press): Religious leaders of Madhya Pradesh State have publicly denounced radical Hindu groups standing behind a fierce persecution campaign against Christians. The letter addressed to the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind and the first judge of the Supreme Court, lists the latest attacks and censures local authorities and police in connection with the aggressors.

According to reports, groups such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal allegedly discriminate, attack and accuse Christians of organizing ‘forced conversions’ to get them arrested.

Instead, the vast majority of the religious men and women present in the country are engaged in charitable works such as educational missions and caring for the sick.

Charitable activities amidst the population expose missionaries to a vulnerable situation, easily triggering accusations of ‘forced conversion.’

Concerns about religious persecution in India are worrying international observers. The number of Christians in jail and Catholic churches or institutions attacked increases daily. (FM)
