Vatican City (04/06/2025 15:00, Gaudium Press) This weekend, April 5 and 6, Rome will welcome around 20,000 pilgrims from more than 90 nations who will gather in the eternal city to take part in the Jubilee of the Sick and the World of Health.

The delegations will include patients, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, health professionals and technicians. Among the countries that will be represented at the event are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Congo, Croatia, Spain, Ethiopia, France, Mexico, Peru and the United States.

An intensive program for the Jubilee of the Sick

The program for the Jubilee of the Sick began on the morning of Saturday, April 5, with the possibility for all participants to make their own pilgrimage to the Holy Door of St. Peter’s. In the afternoon, cultural and spiritual events are planned in the squares in the center of Rome. In the afternoon, cultural, spiritual and artistic events are planned in the squares of central Rome. A meeting entitled ‘The value of gift and solidarity’ will take place in the late afternoon in Piazza di Spagna.

A conference entitled ‘Hospice = Hope’ on the theme of palliative care will be held at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. In Piazza Risorgimento there will be an event teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. There will also be a blood donation awareness event in Piazza San Giovanni, with a special blood collection.

Health Education Activities and Moments of Prayer for the Sick

Several health federations will be offering health education activities throughout the day in Piazza della Chiesa Nuova and Piazza San Salvatore in Lauro. The Department for Health Pastoral Care of the Vicariate of Rome will be organizing information and awareness-raising activities on the subject of addiction in Piazza dell’Oro.

In the Church of Santa Monica, in Piazza Sant’Uffizio, a conference will be held to present Blessed Benedetta Bianchi Porro, a medical student who died of a rare disease. There will also be times of prayer for the sick, with Eucharistic Adoration and catechesis by religious congregations with charisms of care.

Closing Mass Presided by Archbishop Rino Fisichella

The Jubilee of the Sick and the World of Health concluded today, Sunday April 6, with a Holy Mass presided over by the Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, in St. Peter’s Square at 10:30 a.m. local time (5:30 a.m. Brasilia time). The homily for this celebration was written by Pope Francis and will be read by Archbishop Fisichella. (EPC)
