Today the Church asks God once again to manifest his saving power by invoking him as Adonai, Lord!

An ancient tradition of the Church is the recitation of the seven O Antiphons in the week before Christmas. The antiphons are supplications from humanity to its Saviour:

O Adonai

guide of the house of Israel

who appeared to Moses in the flame of fire

in the midst of the burning bush, and gave him the law on Sinai

Come and redeem us by the power of Thine arm.

O Adonai

et Dux domus Israel,

qui Moysi in igne flammæ rubi apparuisti

et ei in Sina legem dedisti:

Veni ad redimendum nos in brachio extento. (FM)
