Father Corrado Maggioni will succeed Monsignor Piero Marini, who had been in charge of the Commission since October 1, 2007.

Newsroom (September 13, 2021 12:40 PM, Gaudium Press) – On Monday morning, September 13, Pope Francis appointed Father Corrado Maggioni as the new president for the Pontifical Commission for International Eucharistic Congresses.

The priest of the Montfortines Congregation will succeed Monsignor Piero Marini, who had been in charge of the Commission since October 1, 2007. He was the Undersecretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments

More than 30 years of service in the Vatican

Born in Brembate di Sopra, province of Bergamo, Father Corrado Maggioni, 65, has worked in the Holy See for more than 30 years. He joined the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 1990.

In 2000 he assumed the Liturgical Office of the Central Committee of the Great Jubilee and was responsible for the evening prayer in St. Peter’s Square, a devotion inspiring pilgrims to conclude the Jubilee journey with a pause for prayer.

Titles and offices

Fr Maggioni has a Doctorate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of St. Anselm. In 2007 he started working in the Dicastery of Divine Worship. By 2013, he became a consultant to the Office for Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, and on November 5, 2014, he was appointed undersecretary. He is a member of the Council of the Pontifical International Marian Academy and a professor at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of Saint Anselm and the Pontifical Theological Faculty Marianum.
