“As in a family, I experienced a fraternal welcome and cordial care, which made me feel at home,” the Pontiff stressed.
Italy – Rome (20/07/2021 19:15, Gaudium Press) Pope Francis has written a letter of thanks for the attentiveness he received during his days at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital.
Human sensitivity and scientific professionalism are essential in health care
In a letter, addressed to the lawyer and president of the Hospital Foundation, Carlo Fratta Pasini, the Holy Father expresses his gratitude and affection “to all those who form the great family of the Gemelli. As in a family, I experienced a fraternal welcome and cordial care, which made me feel at home”.
Pope Francis also commented that he could personally see “how human sensitivity and scientific professionalism are essential in health care. Now I carry in my heart many faces, stories and situations of suffering. The Gemelli is really a small town in the Urbe (city), where thousands of people come every day, bringing their expectations and concerns”.
A work of mercy that comes into contact with the wounded flesh of Jesus
For the Pontiff, at Gemelli Hospital “besides the care of the body, the care of the heart is carried out”. And he promises his prayers that this may always happen, “through an integral and attentive care of the person, capable of infusing consolation and hope in times of trial.”
“What each of you does is not just delicate and demanding work. It is a work of mercy that, through the sick, comes into contact with the wounded flesh of Jesus,” he notes. The Pope concludes his message by renewing his gratitude and giving the entire Gemelli Hospital family his apostolic blessing. (EPC)
