Spain will celebrate the Holy Jubilee Year of Saint Isidore Labrador

The jubilee will begin next May 15, the feast of Saint Isidore Labrador, and conclude on May 15, 2023.

Newsroom – Spain – Madrid (January 28, 2022, 8:30 AM, Gaudium Press) In his weekly letter, the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Archbishop Carlos Osoro Sierra, announced that Pope Francis has granted a Holy Jubilee Year of Saint Isidore Labrador, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the canonization of the patron saint of Madrid.

The jubilee will begin on May 15, the feast of Saint Isidore Labrador, and will conclude on May 15, 2023. The Cardinal assures that this will be a “year of grace for Madrid” and that it will bring many blessings to the Spanish capital.

Religious and cultural program

Numerous religious and cultural celebrations are being prepared to celebrate this jubilee year. In addition, the faithful who approach the sepulchre of the Saint will be able to gain a plenary indulgence.

The Cardinal encourages people, especially during this period, to remember events from the life of St. Isidore, and to visit places where he lived in order to drink directly from the fountain dedicated to this saint who was the “living Gospel of God.”

Saint Isidore the Farmer

Saint Isidore Labrador “lived as a disciple of Christ and proclaimed the Gospel as a husband, father, neighbour and worker in Madrid. As a neighbour, he was attentive to the needs of all who lived next to him. As a worker in the fields, he always sought justice and truth so that all could live by the sweat of his brow.

This Saint is the patron saint of the city of Madrid and of farmers. On December 16, 1960, through the Bull ‘Agri Culturam’, Pope John XXIII extended the patronage of Saint Isidore to Spanish farmers and peasants, extending devotion to the Saint not only in Spain but throughout the world. (EPC)
