A group of armed terrorists attacked a Catholic seminary in Nigeria, wounding six students and kidnapping three others.

Newsroom (October 14, 2021 10:15 AM, Gaudium Press) According to confirmation by Aid to the Church in Need, three seminarians from Christ the King Seminary in the Nigerian diocese of Kafanchan were kidnapped last Monday. The seminary is located in Fayat town in Kaduna state.

A group of armed men opened fire and stormed the seminary when the students, about 130 students, were gathered for morning Mass. In addition to the three kidnapped students, six others were injured in the criminal activity.

The kidnapped students are fourth-year theology students and belong to the congregation of the Apostles of Divine Charity and the Little Sons of the Eucharist.

The police in the area were quickly called, but they were unable to stop the kidnapping. The wounded are in a stable medical condition.

The Chancellor of the diocese asked for prayers for the release of the hostages: “May Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and St. Wilfredo, intercede for our kidnapped brothers and all the people who have been kidnapped.

Unfortunately, Nigeria has a long and ancient history of kidnappings and armed attacks against Catholics.

Doctor Thomas Heine-Geldern, executive president of Aid to the Church in Need, urged the international community: “not to look away from the atrocities that happen daily and that create suffering for Christians with the acts committed by Boko Haram, the Fulani (a group of nomadic Muslim peasants) and by the acts of violence by bandits throughout the country.” (FM)
