Sir David Amess, cruelly murdered on Friday, was honoured in the British Parliament and praised by church authorities.

England – London (18/10/2021 4:40 PM, Gaudium Press) Monday was marked by tributes paid to David Amess, the British MP murdered last Friday, October 15 in Leigh-on-Sea.

A Mass celebrated at Saint Margaret’s church, located next to Westminster Abbey, followed the tribute session.

Several church authorities praised Amess and his commitment to defending life and religion. Pope Francis prayed for him at the last Angelus.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster and the Anglican Primate, Justin Welby were surprised and saddened by the event.

Cardinal Nichols stated that it is “a painful loss in so many lives” He also described David Amess’ commitment as flawless and wrote in his Twitter account: “David carried out his vocation as a Catholic in public life with generosity and integrity.”

David Amess had been an MP since 1983. He always defended the conservative pro-life agenda on topics such as abortion and euthanasia.

Amess did not hide his religious commitment and stated: “I was born a Catholic, and I will die a Catholic.” He was the founder of the parliamentary group for relations with the Holy See in 2006. Sir David Amess died as a result of a knife attack on Friday, October 15. The attacker had alledged ties with Islamic extremism. Police continue the investigation. (FM)
