Initially scheduled for 2020, the International Eucharistic Congress was deferred to 2021 due to the pandemic.

Budapest – Hungary (June 16, 2021 10:40 AM,Gaudium Press) During a press conference held last Monday, Cardinal Péter Erdő, Metropolitan Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, introduced the official hymn of the International Eucharistic Congress. The event will take place in September at the Hungarian capital.

The song is an updated version of a hymn written for the International Eucharistic Congress of 1938, the last year Budapest hosted the event. During the presentation, a video told the conversion stories of three young people in Budapest.

Theme and ambassadors of the International Eucharistic Congress

Initially scheduled for 2020, the International Eucharistic Congress was deferred to 2021 due to the pandemic. The theme will be “All my sources are in you.” (Ps. 87.7)

Cardinal Erdő also introduced twelve ambassadors of the International Eucharistic Congress. These are famous musicians, singers and poets who intend to be “witnesses of the Eucharist.”

International Eucharistic Congress Program

The International Eucharistic Congress will open with a Mass at the Heroes’ Square, featuring a one-thousand-voice choir. The venue, ‘Hungexpo in Pest,’ will see daily activities starting on September 6. These include Eucharistic celebrations, catechesis, exhibitions, and other cultural events.

The Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Cardinal Péter Erdő, will celebrate a Holy Mass on September 11 at Kossuth Square, followed by a candle procession to Heroes’ Square. Pope Francis is expected to close the Eucharistic Congress with the celebration of the Holy Mass on September 12. (EPC)
