The cases were recorded in the country between the years 1990 to 2022 and are disclosed in a report published by the Mexican Catholic Multimedia Centre.
Newsdesk (20/07/2022 23:11, Gaudium Press) The Mexican Catholic Multimedia Centre (CCM) has released a report in which it points out that between the years 1990 to 2022, a Cardinal and 57 Catholic priests were murdered in Mexico.
Day of Prayer for Peace in Mexico
The document was released as part of the Day of Prayer for Peace in Mexico, an initiative called by the Mexican Bishops’ Conference, the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Mexico and the Mexican Province of the Society of Jesus.
On July 10, all priests, religious men and women murdered in Mexico were remembered in the Holy Masses celebrated in the country. According to the director of CCM, Father Omar Sotelo, this was an opportunity for unity among all Mexicans.
Violence in Mexico
Mexico is experiencing a period of great violence. For Father Sotelo, this is the result of the dehumanization of human beings. “I think this is precisely the product of many years in which we have left men, women, especially young people, who have been recruited by organized crime, adrift,” he lamented.
“Today the Church opens up and has the great opportunity to invite all Mexicans, to contribute to peace, which comes from forgiveness, which comes from love and comes from the re-humanization of the human being. I believe that this is the most important thing and it is the great opportunity that we have as a society to confront this deplorable scourge that we are living,” he concluded. (EPC)
